The Essential School of Painting - London Art School

guide name: Geraldine Wang

When I signed up for ESOP's Contemporary Fine Art online course in 2024. I was in a rut. I was having creative mental block and just felt everything I was making was rubbish. The CFA course has really turned things around for me. I had no expectations in the beginning and thought I'd just see how it went but it's been a wonderful experience. Course tutors were Bob Matthews, Guy Allott and Liane Lang and all were excellent. Very observant, knowledgeable and approachable. Attending long distance from Singapore meant a 7-hour time difference for the weekly sessions (4pm to midnight for me) but I looked forward to every one. The class format has just the right balance of personal mentoring, lecture input and group interaction with fellow artists. The questions thrown at us every week were thought-provoking/mind-opening and pushed me to think more deeply about the work I make, and why I make what I make, thereby helping me better understand the kind of artist I am/want to be and what I want my art to convey. Coming together as a group is also highly beneficial as you gain from different perspectives and form a supportive network. Having experienced various formats of online teaching from other art schools, I have to say ESOP has nailed the formula. I've learnt so much in a short time and it shows in my latest work. Highly recommend!

Creative Explorers Day Nursery

guide name: william battersby

Our little girl has been attending creative explorers for 7 months now. We are first time parents and this is our first experience with a nursery. From the start Reena and have the team have been excellent. Communication has been clear and the care for our daughter has been excellent. This is evident in the fact that she is always happy when we collect her and drop her off, she has rarely been ill since starting (we were expecting her to pick up every bug going but have been lucky so far) and her development has come on in leaps and bounds. Her settling in was structured and it really didn't take long before she was waving me goodbye! The staff show a real love for the children and it has certainly made my experience as a first time mum so much easier. The location is also excellent for commuting to the city! We are sad that we are moving out of the area and have had to find a new nursery closer to our new home! But would recommend Creative Explorers highly.

Bowes Park Nursery

guide name: Ruth Townsend

We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old currently at Bowes Park Nursery. We couldn’t recommend the nursery more. Both love their time there and we, as parents, always feel secure when they’re there. All the staff are wonderful and go above and beyond the call of duty. Our four year old is starting school in September and thanks to Bowes Park Nursery feels very prepared. She is starting to write, spell and do basic maths already. She also loves her weekly football, dance and French classes. It is a lovely environment. Thank you so much ++++++

Fantastic time! Spooktacular Drone and Fireworks Festival. Crowd control was good, we moved through everwhere fine, even train station management was good. The display was very good and the DJ set afterwards was fun too! Would recommend. 😆

Downhills Park

Lovely space which hosted the Art in the Park day, we went for the first time today and it was an amazing day out except for the quick rain pour down. We were able to get face painted, design cupcakes, design a golden crown, puppet show, make a drum, create a clay toy, play with bubbles absolutely great and so thankful for the people who helped make it a public event. This event was well planned and the children had so much interact entertainment to keep them busy and happy. The park has lots of Green space, a football court, a Basketball ball court, a playground and a cafe. Would recommend and would come back. The play is very clean and safe. The grass is well kept and lots of ladybirds to find.

Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

Fantastic Ice Skating Experience! I had such a great time here! The ice rink was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lively, with good music and a fun vibe for both beginners and experienced skaters. The rental skates were in good condition, and there was plenty of space to skate comfortably. It’s a perfect place for families, friends, or even a solo skate session. Highly recommend for a fun and active day out!

Autograf Restaurant

guide name: Marta Parciany

We visited Autograf for the first time 2 years ago and we were amazed how good the food was and how the place made us feel like we are at grandma house. We went there today and we had the same experience. We were welcomed by the owner and seated at the table. Place is very clean and has a nice decor with some polish music playing in the background. Food was tasty, portions were very big. We had two mains, two drinks and some sides. I also bought some dumplings for take away for the next day lunch. Everything came up to 54£ which I think for London and prices those days is cheap considering the fact we were very full, too full to order some desserts but hopefully next time we will be able to eat them. If You haven’t visited Autograf yet or didn’t try polish food yet, consider going there for authentic polish food and nice atmosphere. We had a nice chat with the owners. We will be back for sure. Dziękujemy :-)

Nando's Wood Green

guide name: Aditya Proddutoor

Tasty peri peri chicken dishes with good selection of other dishes too. We went to the Self service area, you can scan a QR code on the table to view the menu, order and pay all in one-go. They bring the food to the table. Easy process, but the network was quite slow inside the restaurant, so took a while before we could order everything. Large selection of sauces for different spice levels (periometer). Service was good as well.

The Victoria Stakes

guide name: Simon Marshall

We enjoyed the food but the service was slow and the waiters didn’t seem to understand the menu. We ate an hour and a quarter after sitting down. And there was no vegan option and no labelling of options to indicate vegetarian dishes. We were charged the full amount for the sea bream option which the vegan among us had, with the fish being replaced by courgette. The fries came with chicken salt on them as standard so we needed to ask for fries without it for the vegan and vegetarian among us.

The Tiffin Tin (Hornsey)

guide name: Lea Silva

I just recently tried this as it was a recommendation from a friend and the food was great and honestly so was the service I have nothing to complain about in terms of Samuel’s kindness and hospitality. Dealt with me, with patience’s, understanding and respect, a really good atmosphere he made which is great. As not many restaurant environments focus on hospitality anymore so it’s great to see as young man taking that into account with his works space. To me it’s important as regardless of how good the food is in an environment if the serves and workers make an unpleasant experience in any way I would not step foot in there again. So definitely will be back thank you again Samuel and thanks to the chef as the food was great really felt as if it was authentic Indian just wished it was more spicy.

We tried South Cypriot cuisine and chose four meze menus in total, two seafood and two meat. The menu included cold meze, warm starters and salad. The seafood platter had calamari and breaded prawns, but both were lacking in flavour. The salad wasn’t great either, probably because the tomatoes in the UK aren’t very tasty. On the positive side, the owners were attentive and friendly. The chips, fish, souvlaki, octopus and cold meze were all very good. It would be great if these could be improved. On weekdays, the kitchen closes at 8.00 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, it closes at 9.00 pm.

Three Compasses

guide name: London Pub Map

🚇 Hornsey 🍺 £7.20 Brixton Pale Ale The Three Compasses sits on the busy High Street in Hornsey, a short walk from Hornsey station. Originally a coaching inn built in 1822, back then the New River flowed through its grounds. The pub was rebuilt in 1896 during the urbanisation of Hornsey village. Architect John Farrer designed a lighthouse to crown the building. This was a smaller, identical version of the magnificent Elephant and Castle pub in south London, also built that year but sadly demolished in 1959 as part of the London County Council’s redevelopment scheme. Today, it’s a stylish and contemporary two-bar pub that feels bright and airy. The front bar features a traditional central servery, boarded floors, tiled and wainscotted walls, exposed brickwork, vintage and art deco prints, and plenty of comfy seating. The rear bar was likely the original billiards room and retains a more traditional feel, bathed in light from the vaulted atrium above. There’s a small servery to the left, a hatch to the kitchen, neo-Georgian wall panels, a raised seating area in the middle, a pool table at one end, and a dartboard at the other. The marble fireplaces are particularly eye-catching. The beer selection features familiar favourites and one cask ale. I opted for a Brixton Pale Ale — a fine pint, though on the pricier side. The food menu focuses on burgers and pub classics, with roasts available on Sundays. I visited around 2pm on a warm, overcast Saturday afternoon in August. A few punters were in, including a family enjoying lunch. The atmosphere was convivial and laid-back, with Sky Sports showing on a few TVs. Service was friendly and welcoming — one of the management team showed me around and mentioned the back bar was closed as their two new pub cats were hiding in a banquette. The Three Compasses is the oldest pub in Hornsey, once serving weary travellers and now welcoming locals from the surrounding area. It’s a comfortable, well-run pub with good beers, hearty food, and friendly service — definitely worth a visit next time you’re nearby. Follow @threecompassespub for updates. 📅 2nd August 2025 If you want to see all my pub reviews in one place, head to @londonpubmap on Instagram or Facebook. 🍻

When i asked if I can jsut wash my hands i was told to use tissue and they guy walked off. Its genuinely disgusting, I know they closed it because it meant they'd have to clean it but people eating need to use a toilet and wash their hands?? There's not even wipes.
