Northumbria University - London

guide name: A-kaY

My journey as an international student at Northumbria University London has been nothing short of amazing. Despite the fees being a bit on the higher side, the quality of education and genuine care shown by many of the academic staff makes it well worth the investment. I have no regrets choosing this university. Special thanks to lecturers like Mr. Kokonda, Mr. Isaac, and Mrs. Nneka — true gems in the education space. Their kindness, professionalism, and willingness to understand and support students through academic and personal challenges made all the difference for me. One of the main challenges I faced was during the enrolment process. I was unable to attend induction lectures due to delays, which I later had to sort out by contacting the helpdesk. Thankfully, they respond promptly via email, so I recommend future students complete their enrolment as early as possible to avoid missing important sessions. Now, a very important distinction: the gentlemen at the welcoming desk downstairs are absolutely amazing. Always polite, calm, and happy to direct or guide you — they set the right tone for anyone entering the building. However, the same cannot be said for the student helpdesk upstairs, which has unfortunately been a low point in my experience. On one occasion, I was rudely told, “YOU GOT NO LECTURES — GO HOME UNTIL ENROLMENT IS COMPLETE,” by an Indian male staff member who behaved like he ran the university. It was aggressive, uncalled for, and extremely unprofessional — especially when students are already stressed and trying to get help. To that staff member, if you ever read this: students come to you for support, not for verbal abuse. If you’re having a rough day, there’s free coffee on the third floor — we’re not here to absorb your frustration. I sincerely hope Northumbria takes steps to address such behaviour — it does not reflect the otherwise welcoming and inspiring environment the university provides. Despite that negative experience, I’ve had an overall amazing time here — from breakout room conversations to having access to quiet study spaces. I’ll carry these memories and the people I’ve met with me always. Thank you, Northumbria University, for shaping this important chapter of my life.

The JPP here is excellent, and the JPP specialist Joelle is amazing and particularly skilled in her field of work. Despite the group having various different strengths and weaknesses, Joelle easily adapted the training to suit everyone's needs, and makes you feel at ease working at your own pace. The program can be challenging as expected, but Joelle makes it fun and I'm pretty sure everyone in my group gained a lot of benefit from the program. Staff at this gym are friendly & helpful, and the premises clean and tidy.

Tower Bridge is absolutely stunning! One of the best spots to visit in London — the views of the River Thames are amazing. The exhibition is interesting and gives a good idea of how the bridge works. Everything was clean and well-managed. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in London!

Amazing! This was one of my favorite tours while in london. We bought our tickets which cost about $48. Place was packed. There is a cafe and a small gift shop inside, bathrooms of course. I would plan on spending at least 2 hours here if not 3. And then of course there's the crown jewels that speak for themselves. So much history here and so much to see I loved everything about this!

St. Paul's Cathedral

guide name: Sam Aberman

Visited midweek with friends and absolutely blown away by this place. Entrance fee (£28/Adult) is not cheap, but for me it was worth every penny. The cathedral is breathtaking - Wren's architecture is stunning with a restrained elegance that oozes history and power. We witnessed several ceremonies taking place which was incredibly moving (no photography during services, but being there adds such depth to the experience). The structure has three levels and every corner is fascinating if you're into history. The audio guide is excellent and really detailed. The climb to the Whispering Gallery is tricky with very narrow spiral stairs, but the views from the top of the dome are spectacular - 360° panoramas across London and the Thames. We had great weather so could see for miles. One of the best vantage points in the city. The crypt houses Nelson, Wellington and has a brilliant section on Christopher Wren and the cathedral's construction. Allow at least two hours to do it justice. + Coffee shop and gift shop at the exit. Absolutely thrilled we made the time for this - a genuine must-see London landmark.

London Bridge — A Timeless Landmark of London London Bridge isn’t just a bridge; it’s a living piece of London’s history. Stretching across the River Thames, it has connected the city for centuries — from trade routes to today’s modern bustle. Went Sunday and was amazing! Did go visit back in 2023 and missed so much. This time went earlier and with my Dad, brother. Such a beautiful ship and fascinating! Defintely worth a visit and Id even go again for the price and things to see! Managed to explore the Captains, Admirals Decks which I missed previously. The views and history were well worth the trip! My Dad and brother loved it 💜💜 Even had a bite to eat at the cafe which was well stocked with all sorts. Everyone was so helpful and an enjoyable trip in London!

Leadenhall Market is such a beautiful spot — the architecture is absolutely stunning with its ornate glass roof and detailed Victorian design. It’s a great place to wander around, grab a bite, or shop, with plenty of options ranging from cafés to boutiques. It can get a bit busy during lunch hours, but that just adds to the lively atmosphere. Perfect blend of history and charm!

Monument to the Great Fire of London

guide name: T Hartberg

The Monument, build to commemorate the 1666 Fire of London, is the kind of monument which these days are not being built. It has long inscriptions at the base of the tall column, but the main interest is the platform at the top. We reach this through a long spiral staircase which requires strong legs and good shoes. There is marvelous views across the City of London and the River Thames from the top. An attraction not to be missed.

What a beautiful spot. We were fortunate enough to stay on a boat there during a recent visit for our son’s wedding and would highly recommend a visit there. Restaurants are plentiful and there is so much to see and do in the area. The staff around the marina are very friendly and helpful and we look forward to visiting the area again.

30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin)

It is a stunning building with a restaurant on top as the effective means for getting in. It does not have a public deck (free or paid) in the truest sense. You can walk around the entire building and it feels very externally accessible and grounded in the areas. 5 stars for architecture and the feeling, 4 stars for overall experience.

The Tower Hotel, by Thistle

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The view was absolutely beautiful, and the location was perfect—within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants, and shops. Having a Tube station nearby was a huge plus, as it made getting around very easy. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the small convenience store in the lobby for essentials. There were plenty of elevators. The breakfast, which was available, was also enjoyable.

I went here for the first time for the Candlelight: Electronic Echoes (Best of EDM) event. The concert was amazing and the musicians were so incredible and talented! The performances brought an extra layer of depth to every song. The church is so beautiful and has amazing acoustics. The staff at the venue were not only welcoming and kind, which enhanced the overall experience. It was a memorable evening and would love to return here for another candlelight concert!

Barbican Centre

guide name: M

The Barbican is a sprawling residential and commercial district built in a grand brutalist style, both imposing and strangely beautiful. Recognized by Queen Elizabeth II as a unique and important development, it’s truly surreal to walk around and explore its maze-like walkways and concrete grandeur. I admit, I visited while tracking down filming locations from the Star Wars series Andor (and it’s also home to the London Symphony Orchestra, known for performing the Star Wars soundtracks!). The history and design of development itself are fascinating. Highly recommended for fans of architecture, urban planning, and Star Wars alike!

Great venue. Intimate over two floors, has a bar and seating area and small exhibition about the history of the venue. Nearest tube is London Bridge. Come out facing the river and head left, keep going past the future Chinese Embassy on the right down the side streets, passed The Artful Dodger pub and Jack the Ripper museum. I saw Frances Barber there in a Pet Shop Boys musical, which they attended.
